I rise today to share some good news about post-secondary graduates throughout the province. The recently completed Saskatchewan Graduate Outcomes Survey illustrates that post-secondary education continues to lead to positive outcomes for students. Not only do a majority of students see significant benefits from their programs, they are also staying right here in this province. More than 90% of respondents say that they are satisfied with the quality of their educational experience. The survey also indicated that 85% of 2014 graduates are employed, with two thirds working in jobs related to their program of study. And their salaries have increased faster than the rate of inflation. I am proud of our government’s record when it comes to post-secondary education and doing right by our ...

Originally established by the Eldorado Mining and Refining company the town was later displaced by Uranium City. It housed miners, company families and related workers. A one-room school looked after elementary students up to grade six, after which students were bussed to Uranium City. Eldorado had its own air service of DC3s and DC4s, which supplemented commercial air service by Pacific Western Airlines. Air was the accepted mode of travel to and from Eldorado and Uranium City. The nearby Beaverlodge mine was in operation from 1953 until 1982. Eld...

Welcome to Saskatchewan! Often known as an incredibly flat province, nothing could be further from the truth. With lush boreal forests and pristine lakes in the North to prairie landscapes and badlands in the South, Saskatchewan is the perfect place for outdoor lovers to explore. We drove a pontoon boat around Lake Waskesiu, learned about the province's first nations at Wanuskewin Heritage Centre, and went for a float in Canada's version of the dead sea. We also toured the RCMP Heritage Centre, witnessed the RCMP sunset ceremony, climbed a massive sand dune, and hiked through one of the few remaining natural grasslands in North America. We packed a lot of adventures into our short visit and can't wait to return one day and explore the province further. We explored Saskatchewan from July...

For two consecutive sets, the Saskatchewan Huskies threatened to put a damper on the party-like atmosphere in the sold-out Burridge Gym. But McMaster was the steadier of the two teams in the late stages, and managed a sweep by the narrowest of margins to move into the final of the 50th CIS Men's Volleyball Championship presented by Leggat Auto Group. Set scores were 32-30, 26-24, 25-17 for the Marauders, who defeated the Huskies in the CIS tournament for the second straight year on Friday. The MVP of Ontario University Athletics (OUA), outside Stephen Maar was the star of the show for the Marauders, with a game high of 18 kills and 24 points to lead his team past a tough challenge from the Canada West runners up. "We weren't doing much for him," said head coach Dave Preston of Maar. "He...

Patsy Gallagher talks about her involvment in the left and with SWW. Remembering Patsy Gallagher By Lorne Brown Regina Patsy Gallagher 1939-2006 The labour and socialist movements in our country suffered a grave loss when Patricia (Patsy) Gallagher died on June 19, 2006, of complications after surgery for lung cancer. She was only 66. Patsy played a major role in many of the political and social struggles of her lifetime. She was born in Saskatchewan to a working-class family in a cultural milieu rare in Canada today. It was mainly a socialist culture and some of Patsy's relatives were Communists. It was in this atmosphere that Patsy developed a solid class and political outlook, which guided her throughout her life. Patsy was active in many of the progressive political c...

From March 2015 to July 2016 I lived in Weyburn, SK and had plenty of time to shoot train operating over the Weyburn Subdivision. Make sure to read the blog posts I've posted below for more information about the area. The Weyburn Subdivision is located in southeastern Saskatchewan, and runs from Pasqua to North Portal on the American Border. There are a few areas that I had tried to shoot a train, but was skunked each time. For example, I don't have any shots in Estevan itself. CORRECTIONS: 1. The 499 at Mctaggart had Soo 6061 trailing, not 6032 2. Shand siding is 10,200 feet As mentioned in the video, I wrote a blog post on the Long Creek Railway.
